Invest In Yourself

In Holistic Health, we focus a lot on what is called Primary foods.  These “foods”  are even more important to take care of than the food you put on your plate.  One of them is Relationships. In the category of relationships, something we often overlook is the relationship with ourselves.  Self love is so underrated in our world today!  It can sometimes be seen as selfish or narcissistic, but it doesn’t have to be like that at all.  Honestly, if we don’t value ourselves and love ourselves as we are, it is going to be quite challenging for anyone else to do the same.  Of course there is always room to grow, and we should be wanting to fine tune things and grow on a daily basis, but we can do so in a loving manner.  If this whole self love thing sounds daunting, I’ve got some good places to start!  There are so many ways to practice this and grow a relationship with yourself.  Here are some various forms of self care that really help me:

Treat yourself!! This can come in many forms, but a few of my favorites are getting a massage, taking time to sit and read,  and getting dessert!  We like to do things for other people, but don’t forget to do things for yourself too!

Daily affirmations!  This is a big one for me.  Every morning I write down a daily affirmation that begins with “I am.”  It can be anything such as “I am creative,” “I am love,” “I am abundant in all aspects.”  Through out the day I try to remember this affirmation and repeat it to myself.  You can even write it on a sticky note and put it on your mirror or somewhere that you’ll see often.  This really helps with positive self talk, and gets you in a self-loving mindset.

Surround yourself with positive people that build you up!  Finding your tribe is so important.  As is the natural ebb and flow of life, you’re going to have some rough days.  And on these rough days when self love doesn’t come so easy, you will really need to hear the positive words from a bestie or loved one!

Body love!  This is so important it needs it’s own category.  It’s almost second nature to look at ourselves in the mirror and instantly find something wrong.  Let’s aim to look in the mirror and tell ourselves how good we look instead!  It is definitely a constant struggle, but our bodies do SO much for us.  As a long distance runner, I realize that I put my body through some pretty tough challenges and it always carries me through.  The strength our bodies have is incredible! We would never talk to a best friend the way we talk to ourselves about our bodies, so lets treat ourselves like we would a best friend!  Honor your body for holding your soul, letting you run marathons (&working out in general!), taking you places, and allowing you to live life to the fullest.
